Dinner and Damien!
Does it get any better? Nup. ;D
It looked like Damien played to a full house tonight.
After dinner DH and I joined the long line into the auditorium and the place was buzzing. We had a great table and met some lovely people. The group on our table were mainly mothers and daughters and it made me realise how much I miss my girl.
Not to worry, I knew we were in for a treat.
I saw Di two tables away from us and wandered over to say hello to her and her DH. We were going to venture outside for a natter but the show was due to start at any minute.
BTW Di sends her love and she misses everyone. She is having a ball in Merimbula but can't wait to get back to Melbourne for Damien's next gig.
Eric and Indi walked on stage (no drummer
) and Damien followed soon after to a rousing applause.
Wardrobe Report: A soft dove grey t-shirt under that gorgeous soft leather look jacket. Skin tight black (sprayed on) jeans
and black shoes. He was lookin' mighty fine.
I took quite a few photos but they are all crap. I didn't get into photographer mode tonight. I just wanted to stay in my seat and enjoy the show.
Set List: - Part 1. - Remember June with Indi playing the tin pipe. Stunning!
- To Get To You - Rockin'.
- Beautiful - on keyboard - beautiful as always.
- Unordinary World - on keyboard - gorgeous!
- Ride On - on keyboard - absolutely stunning!
- Annie's Song - on guitar - the audience went wild!
- If - I could hear the audience softly singing along.
- Golden Line - OMG it was sensational!
- Wicked Game leading into Irish dancing etc. Too cute!
Damien told us that they were taking a short break and that we should grab a drink and have a wee wee if we needed to.
The audience had a giggle at this but D. explained that wee wee is an everyday phrase in his household, especially with two little boys. "Do ya wanna do a wee wee?"
I really did need to do that and made my way to the ladies. I was listening to the reactions and short conversations of the women around me. It was like listening to a bunch of cackling hens in a hen house.
One girl was telling us that every time she hears Beautiful it makes her cry. Another said that she'd never heard Damien live before and she was totally blown away. There was much praise for Indi as well and I know the men in the audience appreciated her.
I have to say that she was absolutely brilliant. Well done Indi.
I went out to the deck and found Di chatting to a few women. Just as I arrived one of the women was leaving in a huff. One of the other women said "I think I've upset her." I asked why and she said that she told her that she thought Damien was pretty average! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! She said that in her opinion Damien was just average and she didn't know any of the songs he'd just sung. I could feel my hackles rising but I looked at Di and smiled. We both explained to this woman that most of the songs she'd just heard were from Damien's new album Remember June and it was available for purchase at the entrance to the auditorium. If she bought and listened to the album she would appreciate D's music so much more. She assured us that she was going to buy RJ.
When I was walking back into the auditorium I heard one of the club staff members saying something over the microphone about texting a number that he was going to read out to go into the draw to win a signed copy of Damien's new book. Thankfully DH jotted the number down and entered me into the draw. ;D I love my man!
Set List: - Part 2.- Crying. The crowd loved it.
- Stay - on keyboard. Sublime!
- Happy Birthday Judith. Lucky lady had Damien sing to her.
- All I Want Is You. A lot of the audience were singing along.
- Field of ? I don't know the correct title but it was stunning.
- Baby I Love Your Way. *sighhh*
- Danny Boy. You could've heard a pin drop.
- Irish music - jamming.
- Everybody's Talkin' At Me. Love that song! No toot, toots.
- Goodnight on keyboard. Sublime!
Damien said good night to the audience and he, Indi and Eric departed the stage. I knew there was more to come and shouted out "More, more." The audience obviously wanted more as well. Stamping feet and loud applause followed. A few minutes later Damien was on stage again.
He introduced 22 Steps with the stalking story and everybody loved it.
Encore:- 22 Steps.
- Instrumental (not sure what it was).
- Hallelujah leading into Sleepwalk. (Standing ovation by moi and the rest of the room).
- Damien and Eric jamming. Not good! *
A group bow to the audience, the lights dimmed and they were gone. It was a fantastic show and Damien was in fine voice. There were a few fluffed notes during the show but Damien and Eric looked at each other and laughed.
I don't think the audience even noticed. I felt the sound wasn't too good and some of the songs sounded very sharp. I would say this was more to do with the sound engineer than the performance.
* This last bit of jamming didn't sound good at all. It came across as jarring and sharp. Once again, I think the sound engineer is answerable here.
There were no signings after the show
but ironically Di and I got to see D anyway and take a few photos.
More on that later.
Braffy to answer your questions (and I told Damien I was asking on your behalf.
) The Coles store was at Flemington in Sydney. In regard to Lara Bingle, Damien is not at liberty to say what it's all about. I asked if he'd written a song for her. His eyes bugged out of his head and he said no he hadn't. Eric told us that Damien was organising a date for him with Lara.
In his dreams!
More soon. My eyelids are getting heavy.
