Just back from Bennett's Lane. Brilliant, intimate venue but it could have been in a wool shed, because- How to describe the wonder that is Mr Damien Leith, plus Mr Eric Aranda and D's sensational new music LIVE? It was amazing, brilliant, moving, joyous and utterly Damien. I loved it so much. In fact, I think I'd go so far as to say that this was one of the best ever, because I felt D's joy, pride and happiness in his fantastic new Chapter Seven compositions. He positively beamed, but at the same time we knew he was nervous. He needn't have worried. The packed house of fans and music lovers enjoyed it and showed their enthusiasm all night, finishing with a standing ovation and a rush to congratulate him afterwards.

The thing I most love about D's new material is that it has a contemporary feel in many ways, but at the same time it is unquestionably playing to D's strengths, ie his incredible voice and emotional delivery (especially the two collaborations with Joe Melson) but at the same time the music has life, energy, fun, poignancy and insight.
I've been a critic of D's lyrics at times in the past, though always a huge fan of his melodies. I truly don't have that niggling reservation this time around. I feels so RIGHT, so authentic, so much a part of him. You and I and Last Sad Song are genius, btw.He threw in Only The Lonely, The Lonely Nights (for us , thanks D!) Get Lucky, , Hallelujah, and Pretty Woman on top of many of the Chapter Seven numbers tonight, after an hilarious audience vote. He was also accompanied brilliantly by Eric, playing with some fantastic new tech, which enables their superb acoustic partnership a little more room to stretch it's wings. I loved it. Subtle, unobtrusive yet genuinely enhancing effects, ranging from cello to Hammond organ sounds. Really a great addition to their extensive bag of tricks. I'm so very happy for D that he is now producing music which he genuinely loves. It shows. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have an early start in the morning too, just like D, but to finish a word about Hunter Adams, D's support. I'm a new fan. The lady performed a great, funky, singer/songwriter acoustic set, interspersed with some sparkling patter and a genuinely dexterous guitar style, which was right up my alley. A very enjoyable opener tonight. I would happily go to hear her do a full solo gig. Btw, the place was packed. We lined up early, (as s are wont to do,) but the line was right along the lane by the time we gained admittance. Made for a fun, appreciative audience. I think D really enjoyed that too. Good luck in your Barnados run D, and thankyou for your generosity with your time as always. even though you had to rush. xxxx And bring on Thornbury in November!!
