I haven't heard it, but I like the sound of it. The description makes me think of John Lennon's Imagine - is that too corny? John Lennon! I think that would be a fantastic song for Damien to sing! or perhaps the sound of silence by Simon and Garfunkle ( not sure how to spell that sorry)

I love reading all these choices, I can imagine D doing them all so well! But after this weeks amazing vocal challenges I want something different.... in my dream world, I want the 3 songs that D does (including his version of the winners single) to show me (and Australia) what his album would be about. D talks quite eloquently about this here: This weeks video blogSo...I want to see this musical identity D speaks of...bring some acoustic based moody!! Bring it!!

I was thinking Imagine too. I have a version of Ronan singing it live and it's awsome. ooh where did you get that? Sorry I may be having a dumb moment but I can't see how to email you so if anyone wants Imagine email me and I'll send it to you ;D I'm a tad obsessed with Ronan so I've got every single thing he's ever sang. Ok maybe a bit more than a tad lol He's only ever sang Imagine live on Parkinson so no one should have a prob with me sharing a live track. I also have the video of him singing it on Parkinson somewhere too. Although it should be on youtube. Did you know when he was in Boyzone he sang Love Me Tender and he's done In The Ghetto but I'm sure you'd have heard that one. He has some awesome songs that Damo could do well but the only thing is most people wouldn't have heard of the really good ones. I think his b-sides are the best. I Couldn't Love You More, You, My Heart Is Not My Own or even This Is It. That's one of the only song he sings you can hear his accent in *drool* Or one of his latest b-sides Back On Your Feet Again ;D Ooh and Damo could even do Whiskey In The Jar and Ro has also sang Someday We'll Know by the New Radicals which I'm sure Damo could nail too. Anyway I've had my Ronan moment, back to my corner I remember last year they did an Elvis theme night on idol. I was hoping for that this year but it wasn't too be . Love Me Tender. You Where Always On My Mind, Can't Help Falling In Love, Suspicious Minds mmm just too many good songs. Going to checkout the video blogs on idol and see if I can pick up any hints to what he'll be singing

Oh and yeah I think You Raise Me Up would be great but it's been a little overdone and Daniel Belle sang it in series 2 so maybe not for Damien.

You Raise Me Up is kind of the trademark song from series 2, so maybe not, even though he'd do it really well. If we're talking Irish music, we have to talk The Corrs, though a lot of their songs are a bit too girly! How about Reason, or Radio? Or there's one that's one of my favourites, I can't remember what it's called but it's on the Blue album, I think it's called Somebody for Someone, it always reminds me of What About Me, and it has some beautiful high notes.

Still prefer If I Can Dream. I noticed someone actually put the lyrics on here. I think you can now see why it would be such a powerful song. But I also agree with anything from U2 or what Damien himself prefers. But what a voice to be so versatile that people are coming up with so many ideas. Still don't like the idea of Imagine, though. Sorry. It is just so perfect with John Lennon singing it. And quite frankly the song does not showcase the range that If I Can Dream has, in order to fully stretch Damien's great voice. Whatever he chooses, I am certain he will do a great job. Perhaps not another righteous brothers song, although a good suggestion. Because he has more then one song, perhaps it would be great to hear something really powerful like IF I CAN DREAM, and something more achostic. The IF I CAN DREAM song would cater to his strengths because, not only does it show off his voice, emotion, interpretation, etc, it only requires him to stand still and just sing. A song with too much movement would display his only weakness. U2, yes all the way. Male version of Total Eclipse of the Heart might be stretching the imagination, but I could see him doing it, and Rohan Keating, and there are so many. But still this Elvis song for me. Thank you to soooooo many people for replying and giving their thoughts. So many valid points. Fantastic! What a brilliant community. Do not understand the Damien haters at all. It is not his fault he can sing just about anything.

'If I Can Dream' would be perfect for Damien.....I love the Elvis version and I think Damien would have the vocal ability to perform this song.
If Damien sang Hey Jude I would stop voting for him lol...I think it's the worst song I have ever heard lmao. Well I would actually vote as much as I would anyway but I can't think of a worse song choice for him. That would be just awful...I don't want to think about Damien singing anything Beatles ARGH!!!!!!! Elvis please. Would love to sing Damien sing Elvis, esp 'If I Can Dream.'

I love all your choices.
You will probably all laugh at this, but I would love to hear D sing "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera ......... gosh there are sooooooo many songs I would love to hear D sing.

To be honest, he could sing just about any song acknowledged as good and I'd love it....the only thing I would most definately NOT like him to sing is Bohemian Rhapsody *shudder* Hmmm...then again... He sang one opera song, and I don't usually like opera, but I loved Nessum Dorma, so who knows? If anyone can make me love that song - and I absolutely despise it at the moment! - he's the only one who can.

Really sorry to whoever suggested it, but Hey Jude is about as terrible an idea as I've heard. Sorry, really can't see this working. Barely worked for the beatles in my opinion. Not their best. Terrible. Liked the idea of the phantom's 'Music of the Night'. But is it too classically known, and he could be compared to Michael Crawford who does it so brilliantly? If I Can Dream still No. 1 for me. Not because some of your other choices are any worse, it is just that the song is not as well known as it should be, plus the lyrics. And no one else has tried it on idol. It would blow the audience away. For those who don't know the song. PLEASE seek it out. Thank you Crushangel.

Hey Jude would just be the worst choice ever for Damien lol, I HATE that song. Noone could possibly make that song sound good, it's just a terrible song. I can't think of anything more appropriate than 'If I Can Dream' either, it would just be a perfect choice....you're right, the lyrics are great, it's not as well known as it should be and I think it would really suit Damien.
