Just wanted to thank GJ for posting the thread . His voice sounded great and the children all seemed to be mesmerized by the charming Damien. His voice was clear and strong. Anyway enjoyed the singing immensely and sorry if folks are upset. Cheers....

I am really surprised by some of these posts. Who is talking of leaving? I haven't read anything like that. I have read of one member who has said that she has lost a hero, but that is the closest thing to 'leaving' and she hasn't said that. I think people are jumping to conclusions a lot here with this thread unless, and I apologise in advance if I have missed something, if people have deleted their posts and I have missed them. You have missed something...but you are correct, posts have been deleted, so you werent to know. Please trust me when I say, as crazy as we often are, the staff have not been jumping to conclusions, and that we have tried our best on what has been a difficult day. Oh no, Winter, I'm sorry that you, Neski and Murf had a hard time yesterday. Glad that I missed it. This forum should be a politics and religion-free zone. We don't want to get like some of the American sites. *shudders in horror at the thought* People, this is a forum for the beautiful Damien Leith and his fantastic talents. Unless he's a Nazi or axe-murderer, I don't really care about his politics.

OK and we know how hard the staff here work. I feel sad then, if anyone leaves. I just re - read my post and realized that it could be misinterpreted as a sarcastic message. PLEASE BE ASSURED THAT THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I DO know how hard you work and that is what I was trying to say.

Its okay braff...I think your message is obviously sincere and yeah, yesterday is over, staff are fine and happy (to my knowledge) and looking forward to what could be the most exciting week this board has seen to date ;D

UPDATE
I said I would investigate this for you all, and here is an update via Damien's management.
You'll be unsurprised to learn that Damien receives many high profile invites to share his music.
Apparently, the Prime Minister invited Damien to join his at the Celebrate event, and following this the Premier Of NSW invited Damien to sing at one his events.
No doubt Damien was flattered by both the Prime Minister and the Premier’s invitations and so accepted each.
I am told that this isn’t any political indication and that Damien "wisely knows he is an artist not a politician".
Hope this clarifies things for everyone.

Just clarifying that apparently, this was not intended as an overt political statement on Damien's behalf, only another appearance.

Just clarifying that apparently, this was not intended as an overt political statement on Damien's behalf, only another appearance. Thanks for the clarification dede...(and David) I just deleted a post of mine that was supposed to be a joke but may have been seen as an 'overt political statement'. I agree with BG, if someone I admire came out to play for some neo-nazi party or such like, I'd be worried... Otherwise I can value a human being for being so much more than a preference at the ballot box. This thread has had me thinking...I initially did think that an appearance = direct or indirect support, but thinking through again, it doesn't necesarily. I think it DOES say...these people I'm playing for are generally OK human beings...and we can recognise that is (almost) everyone, surely? Rant officially over... Now...2 sleeps to go isn't it?!

I'm not sure I could have stayed neutral if I'd been Damien standing on the stage with Howard. I can just the headlines - Aus Idol becomes citizen, headbutts prime minister, loses citizenship....

Luckily Damien has had a lot more opportunities than the average person to strengthen his patience - spending all that time around Mark Holden and all.

In an interview in todays' Irish Echo (will upload later)
"Last week he raised some eyebrows by performing at the Australian Labor Party's NSW election campaign launch. But he explained that his appearance was not an act of endorsement or the signal of a desire to enter the political arena.
"The Premier [Morris Iemma] asked me to perform at this event. It was only when I got there I realsied that it was his campaign launch. I suppose I was a bit naiive but it was a paid gig. I wasn't making a political statement" he said.

I think it's great that Damien was able to put his point of view across like that so that the public could know his true thoughts
