Thanks, I've got photos up now, right here:
www.dleithonline.proboards101.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pics&thread=1173609617&page=5I also have other photos which I didn't upload, one of Damien holding Jarvis, one of Eileen holding Jarvis, one of Damien and I, one of Damo drinking beer (well it looks like beer), and some others.
And here's my review (it's the same one I posted on forums.damienleith.com.au):
*******************
Yesterday I went to Hyde Park to see Damien performing at the St Patrick's Family Day. It was awesome and I had a fantastic time! So, here's my review...
I caught the train into the city (while listening to Damien on my MP3 player) with my friend and her German exchange student. We ate lunch at McDonalds and Night Of My Life came on the radio, which was cool, then we wandered around until it was time to go to Hyde Park.
There were lots of Irish people there and heaps of people wearing green, and before Damien came on they were singing Irish songs (so we felt a bit out of place, since we aren't Irish). Then the host guy talked about Damien, saying that he won Australian Idol, that he lived in County Kildare, and also talking about "The Winner's Journey". He also introduced us to Damien's backup guitarist, and then finally... Damien came on the stage! Everyone was cheering (who wouldn't?), and the host talked to Damien about winning Australian Idol, the tour he has just finished, his album that's coming out soon, his baby that is due soon, and his novel that is coming out (the host called it a "sexy story", and Damien laughed and said "yeah, there's a bit of romance in it"). Damien talked about being a proud Irish guy and thanked his fans, and he also said that he would be doing another tour in September!
After that, Damien sang Night Of My Life, and it was so cool! He got the audience to sing parts of it, and at the end we did this thing where he sang "the night of my life..." and the audience sang it back, and this was repeated a few times. Next he sang "The Blower's Daughter", and it sounded really good with the guitars. The only time I had heard him sing it before was at the audition. He got the audience to sing some of the "I can't take my eyes off you..." parts, and I think he added some new parts to the song which, according to my friend, were from "I Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Frankie Valli. Then the host came back on and talked about Damien being nominated for two MTV awards. Damien said that it was unexpected and he was very happy about it, and the host encouraged the audience to get on the site and vote for him. Damien then said he would sing one more song - "With Or Without You". This one was awesome as well, and the audience sang the "with or without you" parts and the "oh oh oh oh"s. Well actually, the audience was singing along for the whole performance. Damien added in lyrics from another song in this one as well ("Fall At Your Feet" by Crowded House). The host then thanked Damien and said he was a great ambassador for Ireland. I took some photos and also some videos on my phone. Damien sounded awesome live and he hit the high notes really well (actually he hit all the notes really well)!
Afterwards, Damien signed a few things for people and people got photos with him, but I could only manage to get about ten metres away from him. But I didn't give up when he walked away, I waited for him outside for half an hour, while the security guard people watched me like I was a crazy obsessed fangirl or something.
After half an hour of occasionally spotting him, Eileen, and Jarvis (he's cute
) on the other side of the fence, I saw them coming out and ran over to meet Damien. I think he seemed surprised that there were more fans waiting for him (although he has heaps of fans so maybe I just imagined that). I got to talk to him for a bit, and we talked about how cool the concert was and about how Mark Wilkinson should go on Australian Idol this year. Damien said "Guten Morgen" (good morning) to my friend's German exchange student, and he also told me how to say "Can I go to the toilet?" in Irish (although I can't remember how to say it).
He said they used to have to say that at school in Irish but they talked in English apart from that. He was so nice!
Then Damien put his arm around me and I got a photo with him, and the German exchange student did as well and I took a photo!
Damien signed a few things for me, including my "Winner's Journey" booklet thingy from the album where he wrote a message! Unfortunately I then had to leave, so we said goodbye and Damien went to talk to some other people.
I had a really awesome time, and I was so lucky that I got to meet Damien!
Thanks to dededom for posting and telling me about the event.
