Just wondering what you guys think. Rate Damien's Idol Performances. You can choose any of his performances, however these are my top 5 so far:
1.) Wicked Game
2.) Creep
3.) Message to my girl
4.) With or Without You
5.) You are so beautiful

I love all of the Top 5 I'm writing here, and even number 5 is better than most of the other contestants' best, in my view anyway. Singing in all 5 was divine, so I'm just left to decide my favourite ones for the audience connection, impact and arrangement. 1: Wicked Game - Spinetingling opening and perfect arrangement. This could be a world class single right now. Carried the audience away. Wouldn't have believed I could love another version more than the original but now I do! 2: You Are So Beautiful - I literally watched *stunned*. Couldn't believe my eyes or ears how wonderful this was, this was the performance that made everyone sit up and take notice. Damien was the one I liked best from the early rounds so was waiting to hear how he'd go, and realised when he was less than half way that he was way out in a class of his own. Because I know the song so well, the unexpected changes were amazing!! Was thinking - OMG, can he hit this note? And Damien more than hit it, he got there, went further, took it for a walk! 3 & 4 Equal: - Sky & Message to My Girl . These two were both sublime. Loved the piano and the simplicity. Magic. Can't wait for more piano. 5: Creep - Just adored this but was a shame Damien wasn't given more time to sing longer, this could have built right up in time to become epic from starting simple. As it was, it was another great surprise way of treating a fav. song of mine and when Damien got right into it he again showed his class Though this is 1 to 5, I consider all these really close together as far as being my favourites, but hopefully the reasons why will be of some use to Damien in how things connect to his audience.

I'm with you Simmery - all these songs created meltdown for me and I actually forgot what everyone else was singing at the time! I'm only counting the songs he sang in the show, not auditions. 1. Wicked Game - WOW! Won't even try to describe what that song did for me!!! PS Hubby, VERY happy that night *naughty room for me* 2. Message to my Girl - WOW! (not very original am I?). As an ENZ fan from way back, that equalled the Finn boy (in my opinion). 3. If Tomorrow Never Comes - this is when I realised the vast appeal of D - my macho, 6"4 football loving brother said it made the hairs stand up on his skin!!! (WOW!) 4. With or Without You - I'm a huge U2 fan and this rendition was just fabulous 5. Sky - a relaxed D on the piano - MAGIC, MAGIC, MAGIC! Cheers, Lozza

LOL - look how you spelt my name, Lozza - maybe you are simmering thinking of the songs! ;D
GAH! Can't believe I actually left out "If Tomorrow Never Comes" - it's like being asked "Which is your favourite Chocolate?" This question is almost impossible! There's too many good ones!!

Absolutely ditto this, though I'm putting Message above Sky And I differ perhaps in that I dont want to see the piano again next week...one with guitar, one a straight-up sing. Unless of course Mr Leith has any other instruments up his sleeve? ;D One performance I absolutely adored was in fact his audition...but we only got to see a few lines so I dont feel I could enter it into the list! What I wouldnt give to hear D do a full version of Blower's Daughter......or Unchained Melody (I think we only saw 5 secs or so of Seymour Centre footage).

See you there *forehead slap* How could I forget "If tomorrow never comes"? That was a real turning point for me too, because I've never liked that song till D sung it. I didnt move or breathe the whole time! I think performances like Tomorrow and Message are the ones that go over the judges heads... they want a formulaic build, key change and big end glory-note to feel satisfied...

Lol winterlong - when I wrote I want more piano I wasn't even thinking of the Show, I had jumped ahead in my mind to Damien's *Concert DVD* ;D I would also love to see more guitar too. OMG, why don't you just make this impossible winterlong Don't start making me choose between these ones too, my head will cave in! I really want to see Blower's Daughter and Unchained Melody in full... basically we'll need a 5 hour Concert DVD with a further DVD of acoustic and behing the scenes extras. Got that, record company execs? Thank you, in advance
