Ozl, Please don't post the links from The Proboards site. I had already explained what the problem was.

Hey guys, I would really appreciate it if only the staff report back with things to do with Proboards and the information on the support board. I realise it is a public forum, but we (Roxy, Carla, Braff and myself) are the respresentatives and the staff members for Damien Leith Online. If there is information over there that relates to us, one of us will relay and report it back to you guys. It's our job to afterall

30 Minute Scheduled OutageProboards had a scheduled outage for 30 minutes this afternoon, but forgot to let everyone know! sorry if anyone felt panicked for the 2nd time this week, when they couldn't log in! I did have a momentary heart flutter...but then told myself we couldn't be that unlucky....and we weren't! I must be psychic ;D

Is it necessary to assign some willing members the job of keeping a back-up of essential threads? i.e. unless Proboards can guarantee that they will provide that as part of their service obligation?
I'll volunteer for some, if needed.

I'll volunteer for some, if needed. Nuffy, ironically I've just talked about this in Trilly's thread. The ideal solution after our loss of data would be to personally back up DLO on a regular basis but we don't have a repository large enough to store the data until it can be archived. Having said that Ozbrat had the foresight a while back to set up a site so that we could store the more important archived data from DLO in case of a crash. She asked for volunteers to transfer data from DLO to the archive site and there were a few of us doing this for a while. It's a great idea and something I feel we should be continuing with some urgency. The simple fact remains, the archive site could also experience a crash. In other words, everything we put onto DLO etc. is electronic, we don't have hard copy. My only other suggestion is for all of us to make our own copies of any information we post to DLO so that it is available in the event of any future Proboard crashes. This doesn't solve the problem of losing the spontaneous chat in the various threads but we are all still here to add more spontaneous chat when required. After all that's what we're good at.

Myst I have been pondering ( actually racking my brain! ) a solution to this as well. Will post about it in the chat & update thread.....

I just had a go at copying the whole of a thread page onto a word document. And yes, it took 4.5 pages even with setting my profile to no avatars or siggies; deleted the member info (except name); removed logged in/off bar and tried to delete line spaces and narrow margins. Fiddly but manageable. I have a separate hard-drive thingy with lots of space so I can save documents on that. I think complete sets are better than individual posts by each member because even if we all did it (unlikely) it would be an impossible jigsaw to get it all back in order.
