I'm so knocked out (60's expression) to hear the views of our loved younger members! It really gladdens my heart to hear the enthusiasm for this timeless music from those who aren't as acquainted with it as we *ahem* older folk! ;D For me, I've begun to absolutely love the songs with The Choir. They are heartfelt, and almost sad songs, yet sung with gusto and verve. I love that contrast. I am also appreciating once again the simplicity yet perfection of Bob Dylan's lyrics. The guy has a voice like an old rusty gate , but boy, can he write a great song! ;D

Did I hear Eileen on backing vocals somewhere? I can't remember which song it was, it might be Longer I'm not sure, I could've sworn I heard a female voice and there was none credited on the cover slip. Have we confirmed whether it was her on This Christmas? Also the drums - which were sparingly used - aren't credited either! Darren perhaps? I doubt it. If they had been able to get Darren over here to record the album then they probably would have been able to get Aine over to sing Vincent with Damien. It's probably Mick Skelton on drums. And about Eileen - I didn't notice her in Longer. Will have to listen more closely. I don't think I noticed her in This Christmas, although she was credited for it, but I assumed that was just because she wrote some of it. She may have sung in it as well. She definitely sung in Come To Me though, I remember reading that.

Gosh SJ...I could never give a detailed, fabulous review like that I also loved reading what your thoughts were on the songs , v. ineresting. I think i'm more in love with old songs from back in the day more then todays songs (suprising myself by saying that but its true) . And is it just me or do songs back then have more feeling and meaning?. I've been really listening to the lyrics of each song and its kinda like....WOW!! why can't people write lyrics like that these days!!, all we get now is 'OOO YEAH SHAKE YA BOOTY, GIVE IT TO ME, TAKE YA CLOTHES OFF!!' But seriously we do lol. If i could write a review like SJ, i would. I just simply adore this album!. And this is me being a sook but everytime i hear 'If' and 'Father and Son' i want to cry, they're such beautiful songs with such pretty chords, they really hit me in the heart! I'm currently using If in one of my english assignments cause i can! , THAT'S HOW MUCH I LOVE THE SONG. Special mentions i have to put down are Wild World, Guitar man, Longer, Catch The Wind, Annie's Song, Old Man & Time In A Bottle. Absolutely AMAZING AND STUNNING , I definitely think i need heart transplant with how Damien sings his beautiful high notes, its magical really Oh and Universal Soldier, Sunshine On My Shoulders and Everybody's Talking is really growing on me, i love them too OHHH HOW CAN I FORGET BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY!! (silly me ) ....ADORE THIS its so sexy. Everytime i hear it i can't help but picture Damien in black jeans, and a open shirt chest hair in full view (slaps self ) sitting on a stool and singing it to ME Ok i'll think i'll leave it at that . Sorry about the last bit I know you said this review isn't fabulous, but I think it actually is! You wrote exactly what you think of the songs and that's what you're meant to do in reviews. And also I really enjoyed reading it - it's funny and interesting. Thanks Kris, awesome. And as for the open shirt with chest hair in full view - what's wrong with you, aren't the hawt album photos with the buttoned up jackets and scarves covering his neck and chest good enough for you?

But my two favourites are: Baby I love Your WayI was never into the original, but this is sooooo romantic, the vocals are achingly beautiful. Everybody’s Talkin’I loved this song during the time I lived in the UK in the early‘90s. I love how this is so different from the version I am most familiar with (by The Beautiful South). It has a kind of *Polynesian *feel to me; well it certainly fits well in my Playlist of “songs to listen to on my tropical holiday dream to the Cook Islands”. achingly beautiful perfectly put, Sel. Everybody's Talking at Me- to me, this is the song that has that latino feel Damien mentioned at the Vanguard. It's so danceable about Damien's singing style - it's more reminiscent of his Idol style to me. I don't know any proper terms but its got a more open sound - a bit more power? Rather than the breathy gentle voice on some songs on WWL. I love how he can change which style to use to suit himself and the song. Mr Super-Astute&Versatile...

One song I thought I heard Eileen doing backing vocals for was Catch The Wind. Just the actual "catch the wind" bits... I could be hearing things though Great review, Kris - I totally agree with everything you said!!

I never thought of that song as latino! What did Bono say - Irishmen aren't cool, they're all hot-blooded latins! I love that! I didn't realize it was on the album and it came on as I was driving down a backstreet, I was instantly wrestling with the wheel and the cd case going "is that-? it IS!!! OMG!!" It's lucky I didn't swerve into a ditch! Does this remind anyone of that phone company ad that's playing on tv at the moment? And yes, Damien's style seems more 'Idolish', he has a style just for covers perhaps? He has great musicality, he knows how to utilize his voice to best express the nature of the song. I didn't notice any backing vocals on Catch the Wind, but there is definitely a female voice on Longer. How romantic if D and Eils sang it together! There was a backing vocal on This Christmas but we never found out who it was, I assumed it was Eileen because she co-wrote it and it sounded similar to her work on Come to Me. Five stars for the review, Krissy! A very vivid description of a typical Damienite reaction... well, typical of some people ...

I love the bit in Wild World when he pauses for a bit before singing "And I'll always remember you". It sounds so cool. Listening to Father And Son now - I just LOVE the contrast between the two voices. The deep voice is so but the high voice is so nice as well. I dunno which voice I like more. And then the awesome guitar part, I love it! I've decided that I do like the ending of Universal Soldier now. It sounds so unfinished - as though the issues raised are still unresolved - very clever. Love the tune too. BILYW reminds me of car trips when I was little - so now I'm thinking that I had already heard it before this year - when I was little and we used to go on holidays and listen to old music in the car. Wow, Damien sounds like Mark Wilkinson at the end of OLCBYH. I'm liking And I Love You So a lot more now that I've listened to it a few times - it's really nice. Sunshine On My Shoulders is awesome!

And Time In A Bottle - Another of my all-time favourites. It's the only one I instantly compared to the original - I think it's way too slow It's also a little unusual because Damien and Jim Croce's voices are so different. There is something hauntingly beautiful about it though, but I just wish it was a little more up-tempo. There is a big chance that I could love it in another few days. Knew this would happen... After a few more listens, I totally love Time In A Bottle! And I Love You So is sounding better now too... I should wait longer before saying what I think next time I have 7 very clear favourites at this stage (almost half the album, I know : - If - Baby I Love Your Way - Longer - Annie's Song - Guitar Man - Sunshine On My Shoulders - Wild World Loving this album more and more everytime I listen to it! It's amazing!
