Hyp, The Potbelleez are a band made up of Irish and Aussie people and I posted an article the other day about Damien writing with them. You might have heard their song (as in The Potbelleez, not Damien's) "Don't Hold Back"? Nope, but I shall look for it! I didn't know they were Irish! This could be interesting! ;D

Well, I am very very excited about the sound of this new album. For a long time, like many of you here, I have wanted to hear Damien do some rockier/edgier songs. I do love his ballads, I really do and I hope there are a few on the album but when I see Damien in concert, I always love it when he performs the more upbeat songs. It really gets the crowd going and we all love good crowd participation, especially Damien I don't know how I am going to wait another 6 months or so, I am going to have to be patient which is not something I am very good at! And like Roxy....I loooooooooove hearing the power in D's voice and hopefully there will be a couple of really powerful songs on the album too. As for radio play, I am all for a song that can get heaps of radio play and get Damien back into the top 40 singles chart. So long as HE is happy with the song choice for the single, then I will be happy too ;D

I can't wait to hear all Damien's new material. Have so far heard "Goodnight" at one of the shows and loved it!
I suppose my personal wishlist would be songs where we hear the warmth in Damien's voice and also ones where we hear the amazing power. I love the soft way Damien sings into the microphone, it seems to make the sound even warmer and richer and I loved that quality in the sound of CTW.
I also love an organic sound to a recording, where you can hear the texture of the room the artist is in - the way we did with the sound of the recording on "Danny Boy" on WWL.
Like so many of us here, I also think it's incredible when Damien's voice soars into another realm the way we've seen him do live.
For me, some moments in the past that really stand out in my memory of him singing like that were when he sung "Beautiful" at Lizottes and "Everybody Here Wants You" at the Jeff Buckley Tribute.
"EHWY" was a jaw dropping song to hear Damien sing live because he just went for it at the end like I've never seen him do before. I thought that was one of his real all-time magic moments, raw and unhinged, when there was nothing left but artist and song.
Similarly, Damien performed "The Blower's Daughter" live with that sort of abandon (thinking of the ending he did to the song at St PAT's 2007) , was just sensational.
Damien can express so many moods both as a singer and writer, that's one of the things that makes him exciting for the audience and he has always surprised me at each turn.
So, my hope for him for the new album is that he will follow his heart, trust his instincts and go for it to do exactly the album he would want to do. I can't wait to hear a further revelation as to what interests him as an artist!

Yes, listen closely Damien, new and fabulous originals are very much what we want and are extremely happy that this album is happening. I'm particularly interested in the views expressed about D's direction and what kind of music we want to hear. Of course, many of us will say SING ANYTHING!! ;D but I believe, from what he's told us, this album wil really define the beginning of a new phase in D's career. *takes deep breath* Some of us may find it a challenge.
