Bad news...  Do think he could re record? (obviously he's not going to, given the expense but there are a couple of absolute stand out songs on that album that could/should be given another crack. ) Or I guess he needs to make his mark now and the "old stuff" will get attention anyway?  I suppose he'd have to buy back the copyright to re-record, but it's time to move on to greener pastures, definitely!  People can still discover Remember June. Let's hope they do when they hear his new originals, heh? |

I know I'm harping on this, but surely they only own that particular recording..not the actual rights to the song? Will have to hunt out my album cover.

I think this quote from the News Ltd article written by their national music journalist says it quite clearly. Damien did not own the copyright to his own music with Sony. Winning Idol gave D his chance to build a career, but it seems he did have to turn over his intellectual property ownership rights.  I'm incredibly happy that's obviously no longer the case.

Does this mean he can still perform his Sony music? Would he be able to buy back individual songs that are crucial to his career such as BEAUTIFUL? Complicated isn't it !? |

I'd be pretty sure he can still perform the songs, Deb. only probs would be recording or selling them I suspect. Re Beautiful. Who knows? I'd just be guessing. . 'Twould be nice to hear the real story from D someday. |

 he can definitely still sing his original songs, he said he would at his shows if we twisted his arms  a little birdy asked him in the Q & A last week
