DAMIEN LEITH ONLINE BIRTHDAY PROJECT for SPECIAL OLYMPICS AUSTRALIA - 2010
It’s that time of year when we celebrate and support the Special Olympics Australia in honour of Damien’s birthday and there is some exciting news about this year’s project!
This year the SO has an national fundraising event called “Run with the LAW” and we are going to have our own team to take part!
The idea was to form our team and have our page up and running for Damien’s birthday so he can watch the progress of our team & tally! This thread will be updated throughout - and of course we will send Damien a summary at the end about how it all went!
OUR TEAM!

We have entered a team - TEAM DLO - to take part in Run with the Law to raise donations for the Special Olympics!
This is an event in which many of us can actively participate as well as support with donations, and those who don’t wish to run can also be at the events to cheer on our team!
Monica Smith, the National Sponsorship and Fundraising Manager for Special Olympics Australia is working with us at DLO once more this year and there is a page on the Run with the Law site where our tally progress can be viewed.
Our page is located here Team DLO.
There is also this method to navigate to the page:
Each person on the team will have their own sub-page as well and all sponsorships for any member of the team go to the team total on the Team DLO page!
Here’s a little more info about the event and the dates from the SO’s Run with the LAW website:
You can make a difference, run for fun and support Special Olympics athletes across Australia!
Australia’s biggest and greatest fun run, Run with the LAW, is now open to everyone.
Join us and you can run, have fun, meet new friends, raise funds and make a difference to the lives of children and adults living with an intellectual disability.
Plus you'll be making history by joining your local police forces (Law Enforcement Torch Run) and Special Olympics athletes for the first ever Run with the LAW.
From 19 March to 19 April 2010, police officers will take the 'Flame of Hope' through 40 cities across six states and territories in 29 days to support Special Olympics Australia, the charity that transforms the lives of people with an intellectual disability through regular sports participation and social inclusion.
Special Olympics needs your support to continue running 11,000 weekly sports sessions for people with an intellectual disability across 250 sports clubs in Australia.
The 2010 Run with the LAW fun run aims to promote equality, acceptance and friendship of people with an intellectual disability, and you’re invited to be part of this history-making event. Everyone is welcome!
Simply register to run a full leg, half leg or last 100 metres in any of the 40 events across Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia and you will be the first to experience the fun and excitement of Run with the Law and, at the same time, make a difference to people with an intellectual disability living in your community.

There are options to run a full leg, half leg or just the final 100m.
Of course, there are obvious terms & conditions (have put the links from the site here below) regarding fitness & privacy etc.
*SO policies:
SO Run With The Law Terms & Conditions
SO Run With The Law Privacy Policy
Are there any registration fees?
No, but there is a minimum sponsorship of $25 per person to be able to run in a leg.
I’ve asked that as we are running as a team for our team total to count for each person’s minimum sponsorship rather than individual totals so that no one is left out if they have trouble reaching the required minimum and they’ve said that is fine.
Can we add team members later after the initial set-up of the page should others wish to join?
YES
When is the cut-off date for adding team members?
Five (5) days before the run
Some of the locations say TBC – do we have some more specific info on time/location details for members who may wish to run these legs.
Some of these are still a work in progress and will be updated as information is finalised

What is the DAMIEN LEITH ONLINE BIRTHDAY PROJECT?
Every year around this time we come together here at DLO for the annual DLO Birthday Project to benefit Special Olympics Australia - for which Damien is an Ambassador.
The idea for our project is a gesture from us to celebrate and honour Damien’s birthday each year, and has his blessing. Direct contributions are made to the Special Olympics Australia organisation by those who wish to participate. As the project progresses, the tally is updated regularly until we reach the grand total.
Your contributions go directly to the Special Olympics - no money is handled by anyone at the forum, and all contributions receive an official receipt and are tax deductible.
Damien receives a letter describing that year's project and the grand total raised for the SO.
In the past three years, DLO has raised over $4,200 for the Special Olympics via this project alone, and members have also volunteered and participated in activities and fundraising events for the SO.
Stay tuned, more information will be posted here at a later date!
THANK YOU in advance for your support for the project!
