DUE TO FLOODING DURING CONCERT THIS HAS NOW BEEN RESCHEDULED TO 8th MARCH, 2014
Friday, 15th November, 2013
115A Cronulla St Cronulla NSW 2230 (02) 9544 3844
Multi-platinum singer / songwriter Damien Leith will take his forthcoming album Chapter Seven on the road with a national Australian Tour beginning in Perth on Thursday 31st October. The show will be an intimate acoustic setting and will feature all his new songs as well as some of the songs he’s well-known for. Audiences will be treated to beautifully crafted songs, some he even wrote with legendary Joe Melson who wrote Roy Orbison’s Crying and Only the Lonely.
“I’m really looking forward to taking these songs on the road and getting out to places I haven’t been to in a while,” said Damien.
The “Without A Fight” Tour will travel to Australian capital cities and regional centres, including Perth, Joondalup, Mandurah, Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Brisbane, Mudgee, Katoomba, Cronulla, Wollongong, Launceston, Hobart, Canberra, Melbourne, Nowra, Taree, Port Macquarie and Sydney.
Chapter Seven is Damien’s seventh album since 2006. The acoustic pop and folk release represents an exciting new direction for the Irish-born Australian. Two years in the making, the album will be Damien’s first as a producer and first with independent Sydney-based label Social Family Records. Damien penned 12 new original tracks for the album, which he recorded in Sydney in a studio he built himself.
Famed producer and sound engineer David Nicholas – who has worked with luminaries from Elton John to INXS – mixed Chapter Seven and co-produced some of the tracks. Other great hit makers such as Gary Clark (Natalie Imbruglia, The Wanted, The Veronicas) and Jon Vella (Meatloaf, Ricky Martin) have added their touch to the album along with legendary Nashville-based songwriter Joe Melson. Famed for penning a string of rhythm and blues hits with the one and only Roy Orbison, including Only The Lonely and Crying, Joe Melson has been writing with Damien for some time now and Joe has become a close friend and mentor to Damien.

You'll have to represent for us Brian and Co. It's a pity more aren't able to go this time because those of us who've seen D play there have loved it so much. The Monkey is one of our collective faves. Have a blast!

Due to flash flooding the show was cancelled after only three songs from Damien! I let Dawn or Brian fill in the details. Dawn and I certainly had an interesting night.

What a shame Maggiemay and Dawn that the Brass Monkey show had to be stopped due to flooding it must have been a huge storm last night, I'm glad everyone is safe though.

Wow, I just read Damien's blog! You poor things, MM, how awfully disappointing -and scary, I imagine. Water and electricity - not good! Hugs! I guess as long as everyone is safe, this becomes part of the Brass Monkey legend now. The first D show ever flooded out! I hope the BM wasn't damaged much and they're back to business as usual ASAP, as well as the others in Cronulla.

Maggie and Dawn! What bad luck! It must have been so scary for everyone. Hopefully you'll get to another show soon. I'm sure Damien will look after you. It must have been hard to leave the venue in the midst of it all..where did you go??

Maggiemay and I were able to go in early down the back stairs as there weren't so many. So we set up and saw Damien and Eric just before they headed to the back. Ironically it was the back stairs where the floods washed into the Brass Monkey The young couple next to us were the Damien fans from the Vanguard who had been married to Damien music (they'd also been at Harrigan's) and next to them was Brian, wife and friends. We got in early and ordered and at 9pm Andy Brown came out declaring he was Damien leith, but had let him hair grow long and change his accent to Canadian hmmm sure....He also told the story of the Happinesssong and how it got him support from Taylor Guitars He had an interesting mic with special sound effects that made it sound like he was singing in a distant echo. He managed to get the audience to join in 3 singalongs before he left the stage at 10pm. Must add that Andy has quite a comic nature about him now and one of the lines he came out with was that every time we sang it made him smile and it had been that way, every time he'd had a goofy smile. Eric came out about 10:25pm and then Damien in his black jeans and shiny shoes and a black jacket with a black on white patterned t shirt and he sang *Halfway Heart and talked about the release of his new album 2 weeks ago, next *Million Reasons and a dedication to his lovely wife Eils, who was there *Beautiful at this point we were evicted as the water had reached the stage, unfortunately we were sent into a deluge which had brought down the roof of the Commonwealth bank and a galvanised iron shop front awning along with pieces of fibro. Needless to say we were pretty wet by the time we got back to the Rydges, but we were lucky enough to dry off and grab a quick cuppa before the power went off in the Rydges It was lovely to catch up with Brian and spend time with Maggiemay

Well we were there around 7.30 pm and before we sat down we were told that it was SOLD OUT so that a good start and I am thinking this is going to be a very special night and it was but not in the way I thought it would pan out.
Damien did not come on to about 10.30 pm and although Andy was good I must admit I was thinking hurry up I want to hear Damien.
OK I remember he sang "Halfway heart" and wow I loved it --hear we go.
Then he sang "Beautiful" and announced that his wife was here tonight and he was singing this for her--Again he sounded fantastic but I noticed my wife Barbara turning around and looking behind us a people talking and I said forget just listen to Damien but the talking volume increased and now we were all looking around as to why are the D---heads talking at the back when the guy in front of us who Dawn mentioned that he and his wife were real Damien fans having "Beautiful" played at their wedding and having Damien as the second name of the newly born son.
He told us that water was coming in and when I looked it was around ankle height in the area where people were talking.
Eventually we made our way out and my son was dropping us home but the police had blocked the road to our home due to flooding so tried to get to my son's place at Hurstville but that road was blocked by police as well so we did a U turn and headed back to our place and slowly but surely we made to to the end of our road but that was still closed by police so my son parked in an industrial premises to get on higher ground and Barbara and I waded up the street and no joking to water was well above our knee for about 30 meters until we started tho get to higher ground.
After tendering to our agitated animals and changing in dry clothes --about 1 hour later my son and his wife drove in the driveway after the police had opened the road but the road to their place was still closed.
Then the heavens opened and it poured for about 1 hour.
At around 3.00 am we all decided to try and get some sleep and they left to go home about 6.00 am.
As they left the general feeling was we must do this again soon as you never forget a Damien Leith concert.
Oh --I was looking forward to this so much---Damm he was sounding so good ---
We have had evacuation drills on cruise ships but I never thought that it would happen at a nightclub.

I have been there a few years ago and lived in Gymea for a year..so I know just how much it can rain... Hope you will get another opportunity..to go and see him again soon...xo

Oh my goodness Brian, that was certainly an adventure! So glad you and your family (and Dawn & Maggie) made it home safely- it must have been bedlam at the venue..having to get out BECAUSE of the weather but being hindered by it getting home! Aargh! I have to say though I think Damien was being prophetic in writing this album. There is quite the storm theme throughout: Last Sad Song: "You never see the damage in the eye of the storm" I Can Stop You Crying: "Chase the clouds from your skies" Never Forget: "From the storm clouds in my head" Stronger Than Superman: "No hurricanes will blow you down" Faith In Me: "So let the lightning strike, let the thunder roll" A Million Reasons: "Rain is pouring down" The Lonely Nights: "Thunder rolling into my soul that's what your loving is, Lightning striking right to my core" *spooky* Add to that "(Always take) The Weather With You" that he sang at one of our shows (or "Stormy Mondays" as Roxy likes to call it!! Maybe D can moonlight as a weather forecaster!!!
