'Songs From Ireland' was recorded in both Sydney and Dublin and features contributions from Sharon Corr ("Black Is The Colour"), Sharon Shannon ("Galway Girl") and, via the wonders of modern technology, the late Bing Crosby ("Galway Bay"). "The main thing for me with this album," explains the singer, "is that I created something that was authentically Irish. It has all the traditional elements: the fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes and bodhran, all of those great sounds that make up traditional Irish music. I've tried to be as real as possible, whilst also being true to my style as well." Leith emerged from the small screen in 2006 and found a place in the hearts of a generation of Australian music lovers. With a cluster of hits including the #1 ARIA single "Night Of My Life," and the albums 'Where We Land,' 'Catch The Wind,' 'Roy' and 'Chapter Seven' behind him, as well as two published novels, Leith is an artist intent on moving forward. Yay! Reminds me of this album by Brian McFadden which I quite like, so this should be even better since it's Damien.
Don't really like that bit at the end where it makes it sound like WWL, CTW, Roy, and C7 are his only other albums, but oh well.
Wild Colonial Boy... didn't Shims want to hear Damien sing that? Or she named one of D's outfits Wild Colonial Boy, or something like that?
Here is the album cover, just to make the thread prettier:

Ok so Damiens new album is a covers album, I thought he left Sony so he could sing his own songs. Why didn't he stay with Sony and he would have had TV appearances and his album would have been sent to all the music stores instead of just a few like with Chapter Seven, he would sell a lot more that way because more people would have known about it. I don't understand his decisions sometimes.

Why didn't he stay with Sony and he would have had TV appearances and his album would have been sent to all the music stores instead of just a few like with Chapter Seven, he would sell a lot more that way because more people would have known about it. I don't understand his decisions sometimes. I don't remember Damien ever saying that he left Sony so that he wouldn't have to release covers. I thought he left because his contract with them ran out and he didn't want a new one because he wanted more control, or something like that? Being with Sony doesn't necessarily guarantee high album sales no matter how good the album is – case in point: Remember June. And it probably takes a lot longer to get an originals album ready compared to a covers one, so I like this pattern Damien's made of alternating between covers and originals albums. It gives us something new to listen to while we wait for more originals, and it gives him more time to work on his originals (and it's clearly been worth it, because his albums of originals have been his best, IMO). It's a good time for him to release an album of Irish songs, since he's been perfecting them for The Parting Glass (not that I've seen it, but I assume most of these songs are in the play). Also, I'm sure Damien has plenty of fans who have been waiting a long time for him to release an album like this. Anyway, that's my understanding of his decision, but I'm just speculating, and I'm sure he has his own reasons.
EDIT: Hmm, okay, after posting this, I just checked the link again and noticed it says that the album is being released through Sony. Interesting. Not sure what the deal is there, but anyway, I now expect lots of promotion, including plenty of TV and radio appearances!

I think it's fantastic that this album is being released through Sony, does that mean he is back with Sony, I hope so.

It was mentioned in the Hut that this was through Sony. There is a bit more there now (thoughts) since your discussion here.

Thanks Spud, I like the cover. Hi Zeeta, I don't quiet understand it all.......as long as he is on the right track and gets promoted......fingers crossed. Is he doing covers because they sell, or timing to go with play? I really don't know. Will listen to anything he sings I will have to have a good listen Spud.....Brian McFadden, I think I know which album you mean too. I did not mind this one actually.

Apparently Black Is The Colour featuring Sharon Corr has been released to radio. I wonder to what stations and if we will get to hear it on the radio.
Also, Damien has recorded a video of Galway Bay featuring Bing Crosby during the week.

That's interesting Braffy. I wonder if that will score some AirPlay ? Hope so. I sound very naive, I actually thought Bing Crosby had passed away? Or it is featuring Bing , parts of his music. My Mum loved Bing....she also always said about Damien......this guy can sing too.
