Oz, I have just watched the video of Celebration (again...!) and it was just so brilliant. I have always wanted to see him sing it live because I thought it would be like a form of 'closure' for him after the beating he took following it.
Honestly, I hadn't smiled so much since my bloody wedding day at that concert. I kept having to lick my teeth because they were so dry from smiling ridiculously. Then I realised my mouth was also dry because I kept spitting as I sang (could see it flying all over Crazy and gj's feet in the light from the stage. Oops!). Anyway, D must have seen this Damienite in the front row constantly licking her teeth with a stupid smile.
Crazy was a non stop rocker throughout the concert - she was jigging away like a shaken bottle of champagne. BIG SMILE THE WHOLE TIME!!! Poor GJ on the other side was swaying with Banana and Hyper and I was bashing into her the whole time as Crazy and I moved to a different rhythm. (Actually, I think it was me who was moving to a different rhythm all by myself. Sorry to drag you into uncoordinated world of Wan, Crazy.....)
Anyway, I haven't said how much I loved meeting everyone. After virtually walking the entire distance from Sydney to Tasmania looking for gj's room with Ozbrat, I can safely say that Oz is ridiculously cheeky and is a walking quip. So yes, I think it continues to be safe to blame everything on her!
As for everyone else - I started writing a little bit on each of you and how fab you all are and then thought twice as I spent more time with some than others and didn't want to leave anyone out!
Having said that, I had seen pictures of Shims, Banana, Braffster, Hyps, Morgs, and Ozbrat so many times before that it was like meeting old friends again. Dede, gj, Irish, Ange and Crazy were the only mystery women and all are beautiful and warm and tres charismatic.
My picks for the night were:
Sky - this was the first time I had really 'felt' this song....I hadn't really been able to identify with it on a personal level beforehand although I had enjoyed the melody....And D kept looking down to see us all singing along and you could see that he was having a 'moment' to see that people were singing HIS original song word for word. It was great to see.
Message to My Girl - loved the way he did the original Split Enz version - I was full of nostalgia (have seen Crowded House/Split Enz/ Finns in concert at least ten times or more) and also loved hearing D sing it. It's just a great so and even better live.
Nessum Dorma - just to be there at the same time as that voice was amazing.
High & Dry - again, I loved hearing him do the original version even though his Swing version was one of my faves from Idol. It was a good show of his versatility to see him do the orinigal cover versions staying pretty true to the original artists given he'd already done very different interpretations on Idol.
Celebration - just seeing him have a good 'ole laugh at himself by doing the pogo stick at the end and getting the band to join in to make it a real performance. I just loved it.
Am only sorry I didn't dance but the girls who had gone on Wednesday night said everyone danced so I was kinda waiting for their cue for the appropriate time. Have sore arse from bouncing in seat though. Does that count?
