" Songbird" by Fleetwood Mac is one of only 2 covers (the other being the single 22 Steps written by Canadian Andy Stochansky) to be included on Damien's new Studio Album, to be released in July 2007. "Songbird" was written by Christine McVie and included on Fleetwood Mac's album Rumours, released in 1977, one of the best selling albums of all time: see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumours; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_McVieOther artists to cover this song include Eva Cassidy in the 1990s an American singer popular in Britain. Her version became very popular in the United Kingdom. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_CassidyDamien said in an interview with the Irish Echo it was included because it was played at his and Eileen's wedding. You can hear the song here: www.last.fm/music/Fleetwood+Mac/_/SongbirdSongbird Lyrics
For you, there'll be no more crying For you, the sun will be shining And I feel that when I'm with you It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world To you, I'll never be cold 'Cause I feel that when I'm with you It's alright, I know it's right
And the songbirds are singing, Like they know the score And I love you, I love you, I love you Like never before
And I wish you all the love in the world But most of all, I wish it from myself
And the songbirds are singing Like the knew the score And I love you, I love you, I love you Like never before, like never before

Here is link of Eva Cassidy live version - www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqogwneJRSA - she has a much more brittle sound quite sweet - how sad that she died of melanoma quite young (33). Irish singer Chris De Burgh has stated in concert that his song "Songbird" from his album The Road to Freedom was written in honor of Eva Cassidy. Edit - I don't think we even got to 6 degrees of separation with that one!

Fleetwood! They're awesome! I have Rumours (can't forget that cover in a hurry ) but i usually listen to a best-of album so I don't know Songbird, I'll have to check it out! The title suits him to a T though! ;D *shudders to think what my parents' reaction to this will be *

Hyp it's a lovely song! I love the Eva Cassidy version, if you know the film Love Actually you will know this song, it's in the scene between Laura Linney and Rodrigo Santoro when they finally get together, then are interrupted by her phone ringing. Really beautiful song and Eva Cassidy gives it such a pure light touch. I am very keen to hear how Damien will treat the song after reading in the Irish Echo this week about him including it on the new album!

I'm not sure if I want to hear too many versions or not - I'd like to hear his interpretation and not be biased by previous versions. Regardless, I'm sure I'll love it! *imagines D and Stevie Nicks duet - *
