I have received a message from Dean Geyer that this is not his fansite: www.deangeyerfan.com/ It follows that the other is likely not Damien's official fansite. That makes both sites fraudulent - which is a criminal offence. It all gets stranger and stranger. Dean appears to have been signed by Caplice Management - and refers to that site as his site. www.caplicemanagement.com/deangeyerprofile.php

Hm. So Dean does not endorse this fan club, despite the fan club FAQ implying that he does. Am I the only person who still has a niggling feeling that someone is trying to make a killing off these two very popular young men?

I'm not sure. I've actually sent some info off to crimestoppers and SonyBMG, but the Caplice site looks legit.

Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. Thanks for the sleuthing purps I asked the 'aaa' dude to have the official site endorse it in their news bulletins or similar..... I wont be handing over a cent without someone from D's camp giving it the tick. In a major way.

That makes both sites fraudulent - which is a criminal offence. It doesn't make either site fraudulent, it just means that neither Damien nor Dean (or more to the point, their management) endorse these sites. I have a working knowledge of HTML and CSS and could put a fan based website together and charge, say $20.00 membership per year if I wanted. There's nothing stopping me from doing that, it's not a criminal offence. What is stepping over the line of propriety is the fact that this so called 'official fan site' for Damien has lifted the graphics, background etc from the official forum site and as far as I know, they haven't received written permission to do so. And what really pisses me off is the official forum site administrator hasn't stepped in to give us a yay or nay about the 'official fan site'. Either way I won't be joining the official fan site, especially after reading aaa's reply to our questions! He/she talked a thousand words and said absolutely nothing! I would much prefer to pay for concert tickets, accommodation, fuel to and from the venue and a nice meal either before or after the show to see Damien perform live sometime in the future. I will probably have to wait a while living in a country area but I'm sure that when I do get that opportunity (and I will one day) it will be forever memorable. It may only be a once in a lifetime opportunity but what a memory for all time! In the interim, I'll always be a fan of Damien's and I don't have to pay a membership fee for that! OK, I'm off my soapbox now.

Actually, if Dean or his management has not authorised the site then use of the word "official", which implies authorisation, is false and/or deceptive. The crime of fraud is to dishonestly obtain any thing (including $$) by deception.
I'm not saying that these sites ARE fraudulent. That's because I'm not fully convinced that they aren't authorised (perhaps by Dean's management, for example). But, don't be misled. If there's no proper authorisation, there is fraud.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. *takes up soapbox* I am so glad it wasn't just me that took exception to this aaa character's response. I actually wrote out a whole long post on the official forums picking apart everything they said (which turned out to be pretty much nothing by the time I was done), but I didn't dare post it because it was so snarky it might have gotten me kicked off altogether. If anyone was even bothering to check on things there. *sigh* And this is going to sound terribly... erm, elitist or something, but if I even had $30 to my name I wouldn't be handing it over to someone who types like they learned their English off the Internet. It's just not professional. I'm not perfect with my English either and I accept that not everybody believes capital letters and grammar are important when communicating online - it's like religion, you have to be okay with not everyone having the same views as you - but if someone is asking for money in exchange for services, then I think they should at least demonstrate they know they're from their! If that's the best representative this company can come up with, then I'm holding onto my dollars. I honestly do think this could be a cool idea in the hands of the right people, but trying to collect members before official authorisation has come through doesn't really strike me as trustworthy behaviour. And the fact that Damien and Dean's fan clubs were copy/paste jobs with different graphics (to hilarious effect... ) is just... well, tacky. And doesn't really strike me as being more about the artist than the money. Aww... Kami, stop beating about the bush and admit that your love for Damien's voice is only matched by your passionate, yea, your unbridled lust for Damien's typing skills, and that it would eat you up forever to think that someone who ignores the basic conventions of the English language is legitimately demanding money in Damien's name. If this turns out to be legitimate, I really hope Damien storms in and pulls a NOML on the whole thing and gets to do what he wants with it. Don't they get it - nobody markets Damien quite so well as himself! (Unless that 'win a phone call from Dean' thing was his idea as an attempt to broaden his fanbase?) Having gotten all I can out of this rant for the night, I think it's time for bed. Time sure drags when you're a-waiting for Sunrise. I'll probably regret saying half this stuff tomorrow, but hey, the benefit of the Internet is I can still hold my head up in public. And if someone wants to report back to this aaa person that I think their English delves into a whole new level of crappy, that would make my day. Night all. Or morning, whatever. ^_^

Lozzab & myself were discussing this while waiting in line 2day & we think it sounds a bit sus too.I would really have to see some proof from either Damien himself or sony bmg b4 i went near it. Personally i don't see Damien charging 30 dollars to join his fan club,& yes like others on here i would rather spend my money on buying cds & concert tickets .At least i know he is personally gaining from the sale of these things.

I'm just bumping this to see if anyone has heard *anything* yet from Damien or BMG as to whether this is official? oddly.......no! I did ask for confirmation from the official site, you know, a pimp in the news section or something, at the very least an announcement from the forum admin.... apparently it was on its way....that was a couple of weeks back, no?

I can't understand why the official site isn't informing everyone either way, as it was advertised on their official forum.

Hmm... so SonyBMG can sign Jess and Dean and arrange for Damien's single to be released in Ireland in that time, but not post some confirmation about this 'fan club'? Interesting. Either a case of laziness or nastiness is going on here. I agree, since someone is trying to collect money on the official forums, there should be a nod from somewhere we already know is official. Looked on Dean's page and there is a message that it will be all up and running soon. Did some more snooping on Dean's page (entered fake login) and got a forum... couldn't post or read but got the member list... about 30 members are there... hope for their sakes this isn't a scam. Damien's page is down at the moment. This is all very... weird... I also wonder... where is Jess's fan club?

Hmm, i dont like the idea of having to pay, I just dont think it makes you any more a fan then someone who doesnt pay, I am new here but from what ive seen so far, Damien and his fab wife Eileen take an intrest in the site and its loyal members, what can a fan club offer that a site like this cant offer? Kind words, support, good people quickly becoming loyal fans! I dont know
