OMG Di I hope you get your camera back ok, that must have been a shock when you realised it was missing! Was so lovely to meet you and I'm glad we had a nice chance for a chat over dinner at Dee Why the next night too
ok well time for my report and my
fabulous lone pic of the evening (apart from c&a) - we travelled quite a way to find Rooty Hill and were not sure where we were - lol we do nav the old fashioned way, b/f driving and me juggling the street directory on my lap
But, thankfully after we were feeling a little uneasy whether we were in the right area or not, there glittering in the distance was the sign that said all we needed to know
we went and collected our tickets and then had a lovely dinner in the cafe there before heading off to the bistro where we found everyone, was so nice that we were all early enough to have a good big chat before the show. Was so great to see you all again and meet for the first time Di, Kazza & Michele and Mr Womby and Braffy friend (not sure if she wants her name here)
just some incredible memories from this weekend, it was such a happy couple of nights!
Well - being a fair way from home and on an adventure to a new place, I decided to go a little bit
wild - and wore my first glo-bracelet!
One of the girls asked Damien later if he saw them (as most of us were a fair way back) and he said that he did, so that was good to know he could still spot where the
crazy people lovely Damienites were.
For starters, I have to say Damien was AWESOME!!! His voice was in it's full rich softness, it's such a true joy to hear him sing - that alone would be enough but he puts on such a great show and is such an entertainer as well. There seemed to be a lot of spontaneous moments/songs that night, with Damien getting the feel for the room and taking requests, it was really exciting as we couldn't tell what was coming next!!!
At the point where he was asking the crowd to vote between Crying and Creep, I was crying out for Creep, along with quite a few others, as I had never heard Damien sing it live (as much as I love Crying). Crying won the vote & was incredible as always, and a full version too
But then when he finished Damien announced he would ALSO do CREEP
- as far as I know this was the first time he has ever performed it in Sydney on any tour and I just about went nuts, lol, with my little glo bracelet waving in the dark
All I can say is that OMG it was worth the wait - he absolutely NAILED it, those high notes were astonishing. I have loved that song for years, and now am so happy to have heard Damien sing his incredible version
He added in his
y line "I've got a perfect body" to much wild applause from the room (the room was pretty lively at times!) Damien asked everyone to join in and lol I was so happy and punching the air (glo bracelet had me feeling theatrical
) wailing
"run, Run RUN" at the end as he was building up to those big notes.
If that wasn't enough, Damien decided to throw in Baby I Love Your Way WITH the most sultry version I have ever heard him sing of Fall at Your Feet (as already reported)
It seemed to be almost a spontaneous transition into the song, it may have been totally planned but Damien seemed to be singing BILYW and then just sort of slide into FAYF - after hearing this can you imagine what other kind of combos Damien could come up with for deadliest effect?
Let's all take a moment and ponder on this...
In the middle of all these wonderful songs there was also for me the most moving version of Beautiful yet, just divine.
The catwalk moments were a riot, as could be expected
Damien presented some fabulous he-man style poses with his guitar at the
safe microphone end of the cat-walk
then did some very stylish Vogue style ones as well.
It all happend so fast we flew for our cameras but I don't think anyone got it.
Soon after was Jimmy's turn and no need to guess how delighted we were to hear Damien start picking the chords out of George Michael's Faith as Jimmy strutted down the catwalk and did a spin - of course we didn't realise that one of our gang
would take it literally
when he sung "I guess it would be nice... if I could touch your body..." and you have all seen "the evidence" of what happened in c&a by now with that cheeky getaway caught on film
At the very end of his turn on the catwalk Jimmy put his hand to his head and kicked up his hip for effect for a final pose and Damien gave him a very funny accompaniment with the song, strumming those famous chords and really playing it up.
When it was Indi's turn, Damien said he didn't think she'd do it, but she joined in too so Damien gave her some "boom chicka boom" style sexy guitar notes to walk to and she did a full length of the runway and cheeky kick of the hips at the end, which had the men in the room cheering of course lol.
- thinking about all this, this really was quite a unique show
it would go from moments like this to absolute sweet loveliness. I was thrilled when Damien did Danny Boy to start the encore, I hadn't heard him sing it since last November and I just adore his version. It brought the room to silence then raptures.
Another magical moment was "Night of My Life" when they got the mirrorball spinning, filling all the room with twinkly sparkles, it was
gorgeous!!!!!! Damien sung it so beautifully too, and like I said in the WYD thread, hearing this song is like the return of an old friend, I love it.
Never Meant to Fail is another one I love, and Fri's version was brilliant
I'm so glad we know now what the tune in Hallelujah instrumental is (sleepwalker) as I have been puzzling for ages what is was too, only could tell that it was a shadows song but not which one.
Roxy I remember when you were in too much nirvana eclipse
at Swoon City that time to remember "Alone" - it was so funny when you said you wished Damien had sung it and everyone was saying "but he did!"
lol Womby I didn't know that you had called out a decoy for Jimmy earlier, good thinking
the part with Annie's song was too much
- like the others were saying, Damien had only just finished an exquisite version of it when someone yelled out for "Annie's Song!!!!"
He looked so puzzled, (no wonder!!) and after confirming that was the song they were calling for, he called back "but I just did that one!!!"
Some girls in front of us were swaying and singing to Annie's Song, and at one point I saw Nuffy and Shims doing a little sway in unison
Yes we were definitely having our "Countdown" moment and enjoying ourselves there
It was so great to see Damien after as well for a few moments
He looked so happy and healthy, which was fantastic to see. Totally enjoyed the whole evening, thank you to everyone for making the evening so special!!
