Hi lovelies. I just had to come in and say a word about the two "The Parting Glass" shows we were privileged to see on Saturday from my point of view. Can't help myself, this is begging to get out, so here I am. I've always been a fan of Damien's original music, as well as his ability to sing a sensational cover, as have we all. I've appreciated his artistry, his creativity, his sensibilities, which he's conveyed to us via that medium. We knew, too, that he could tell a story via his novels and by his often hilarious anecdotes on stage. To have yet another highly creative story-telling method manifest itself in this show was nothing but pure joy. " The Parting Glass" is, in many ways an apotheosis of Damien's talents. He charmed and moved us with beautiful Irish music from his homeland, interweaving the songs with a funny, touching original story of a father and son, as they listen to a band playing in a pub in Ireland. He sang (oh my, that powerful, gorgeous voice was in sensational form ) and played guitar, whilst incredibly, acting both parts. Those present were gobsmacked by Damien's performance, and by the cleverness of the concept. It worked so well, so naturally, was perfectly pitched and paced, so entertainingly, the two hours flew by. When it was over you knew you'd been witness to something unique and rather special whilst having a great time, laughing, singing, clapping and (occasionally stomping) along. I know I'm not the first to express how impressed I was. I thought I knew what to expect, but the reality was even better than I'd imagined. All I know is I want to see and hear it again. Over and over, in fact. Don't miss it, lovelies, when the tour comes to your part of the world. It would be a shame for anyone not to see Damien in such wonderfully gifted full-Irish flight.

To answer your question, catchthewind, yes, D did come out to say hi to fans afterwards and they had merch on sale. The new album Songs From Ireland features many of the songs from this show. Awesome!! Hey Melb Ladies, can't wait for Geelong now! Argh, July seems so far away.

Ooh, I'm even more excited for this show now! I'm actually going to Ireland later this year so this play will be the perfect prelude for it

Lucky you CTW. Agree with all Trilly said and more. He blew me away completely. My DD and her DH came to the same show as us, and he was very quiet, I thought he did not like it much as when I asked him he just said 'good'. Speaking to DD yesterday I asked her how he enjoyed it as he was very quiet, and she said he absolutely loved it... he couldn't say any more because he was very emotional about the story. They both were rapt. In fact he was going to take his dad to see it at Crown, but I told them that Crown unfortunately is the concert for the new album, not The Parting Glass. they think they will still take dad to the concert, and his dad is Scottish!!

Ditto, lucky you CTW. You will truly love the show. I think everyone has summed it up on how fabulous this show is, not knowing what to expect. So yes have to agree Trilly. Glawz that's fabulous your Son in law enjoyed the show. Yes he was quiet......but Damien had him engaged with his performance. Have everything crossed for huge success with the show. So CTW tell everyone about it and get all your friends to book tickets and go to it. PS You may get to ask him something about Ireland too.

Hi all. Can someone please tell me, is the tour of the play or just music? Specifically, Canterbury Leagues Club on June 13th - is that a performance of the Parting Glass or simply the band in concert? It was to be said that the official website doesn't seem to make it very clear, to me at least.

Hi ODT. I spoke to Damien after the performance of the Parting Glass at Chapel off Chapel. He said all performances on the tour will be the play, the only concert will be Palms at Crown, Melbourne. Straight from the leprechaun's mouth you might say! All the same he has a habit of changing things around, so check with the venue.

It is a bit confusing for Canterbury because on the front page of their website it is saying The Parting Glass, but when you click through it is as if they are describing a concert. If there is a stage (a real one, unlike the Basement) then it will be the play.
