sadly, no! Damien himself asked the Tassie girls not to upload this one...which hopefully means its in the running for an imminent release That's interesting, cos didn't whoever uploaded Beautiful ask first and then he said it was alright? yes, permission was correctly sought from D's manager to upload Beautiful..but this was only given for Beautiful, and we plan on asking permission to upload on a case by case basis for all recordings. Damien asked that this recording not be uploaded, and of course his request will be respected! And yes, this unstandably gets people excited as to why this may be the case

Yes, I asked David Champion for the girls and he said it was ok but obviously Damien has specifically asked not to upload it because they must be considering it as a single.

Yay, so this could be the next single? Tassie laydees said that he told them it is in the running along with a few others (perhaps they can fill us in in this thread?)...sounds hopeful that it may at least make the album? But no confirmations yet

It makes me think that Beautiful isn't one of the 3(?) they have narrowed it down to, even though everyone has been thinking that it probably will be the single.

Damien sang 22 Steps at the Tasmanian concert at the Wrest Point Casino tonight. A small snippet from the studio recording was also heard on the Night of My Life Special on Channel 10. IMHO - a lovely, laid back, love song. Showcases Damien's great tenor range. These are the lyrics - the song was recorded by Andy Stochansky a Canadian artist likened to Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, on the record Five Star Motel, released in 2002. If I were him, I'd know your birthday. Just what to get, The colors you wear.
We'd buy old bikes, We'd ride on Sundays. You'd review the books I sent.
And I know, It takes 22 steps, From the walk to your door, It takes 22 steps, Because I've tried it before. And one day I'll knock, But just not yet.
If I were him, I'd buy the raincoat, The orange one, That he forbade. We'd wait for rain, We'd walk by his house. In the front, Not by the lane.
And I know, It takes 22 steps, From the walk to your door, It takes 22 steps, Because I've tried it before, And one day I'll knock, But just not yet.
And I'm not so sure, That you would not say, Get out, don't step in, I'll never try again.{x2}
It takes 22 steps, From the walk to your door, It takes 22 steps, Because I've tried it before, And one day I'll knock. But just not yet.
If I were him, I'd know your birthday wish. Just updated some more details about this song after some more research. You can hear snippets of it here music.msn.com/album/?album=29455614# Andy Stochansky wrote "Shine" which was released by Shannon Noll.

Thanks for the updated info dede on the history and lyrics of the song I have to say...if this song isnt D's (I cant see any info on who wrote it or co-wrote it, so I dont want to jump to any conclusions on its origins)...I would be a little disappointed if it were the first single. I know that I voted for a singer/ songwriter with a beautiful voice, whose compositions on myspace I just adored. I really, really believe in Damien's song writing abilities. That being said, I will of course still be supporting the new album with all my heart

More info on it here (with album production credits) - thanks GJ www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,1700315,00.html *speculates* I guess it is possible that the forum members were asked not to upload it is because of copyright issues (Stochansky is signed with RCA) ... it seems chatting to the Tassie concertgoers that Damien said it was a new song and he liked it becuase it was his style, but didn't claim it as his own creation (or disclaim it as another's creation - so we'll await clarification i guess). It is a nice song, but I'm with Winter. I voted for a singer/songwriter, and that's what I'm hanging out to hear in all its glory.

I agree with you gals, I really hope he releases his own songs! I definitely think Beautiful would make a better single. I just hope the single ends up being a song he has written, I think that's important.

I liked Beautiful better than 22 steps as I single so my opinion is the same -- release Beautiful --- although there were two other songs that were being considered for single as well --- so hopefully will be one of these......

Thanks for the link Dede. I just had a listen to 22 Steps. DH asked "Who's that, Bobby Flynn?" I also think it sounds very much like Bobby's style of music, more so than Damien's style. I would also like the first single from Damien's new album to be his own composition and I will admit that I would be very disappointed it if wasn't. The originals I've heard to date (eg. Come To Me, Sky, etc.) are absolutely exceptional and I don't see the need to include anyone else's material. Waiting for the new single and album is becoming very nerve wracking!
