Haha gj, I'd prefer it if he was 22 steps away from the door, but inside. When I first heard that "orange raincoat" bit, I thought the lyrics sounded a bit "different", sort of like something Bobby would write. But I liked the way I couldn't tell that it wasn't an original when I heard it on NOML, that shows how good Damien is at singing songs in his own way. Also, in the version of the song at the link from dede, when the guy sings "But just not yet..." it really sounds like a song Damien would sing well, so that's good. Plus, Damien said the song suits his voice. If he has to sing a cover, this one would be a good choice I reckon. Yes the falsetto gets a work out on this song.......and he does it wonderfully .......... |

I have had the privilege of listening to both of the Hobart versions of this song many times (and I'm very sorry not to be able to share them with you, but as you know Damien specifically asked us not to, and I'm going along with whatever he says  ) I think you will all love it - the lyrics are quirky as you have seen, and it REALLY suits Damien's voice. It also has quite a sophisticated and rich sound to it, both with D and his guitar, and with the band. I wasn't over keen when I first heard it, but I am a convert now. I'm not sure the 'general public' will care much whether the song is D's own or not. Probably the radio stations will mention it, but I have a feeling that in the end it is the quality of the song that will count. I would buy this as a single in a heart beat - but then I would buy anything Damien released.  |

I searched everywhere for this song the other night and finally found the full version of it  Sounds like a good song but I think I'll like it more with Damien singing it If it is released as a single I don't think many people would have known it was a cover anyway. How many people know that Andy also sang Shine before Shannon? Although I still hope he releases an original first but I'm sure he know what he's doing *hopefully sony does too* |

I rewatched the NOML special today and noticed that just about every time Damien is singing, James Mathison is talking over the top  , meaning I couldn't hear the little preview of 22 Steps properly!  |

And that quote is taken out of context from the funny Chinese whispers game last night in the Member's Only Forum thread awaiting Neski's birthday - and was in black text (ie hidden). I'm disappointed it has been quoted into this Open thread, but I guess its' my own fault. |
