Well Braffy, I certainly won't be giving anything away - I am well practised at keeping quiet after the last two Harry Potters, to say nothing of the fact that working in a bookshop you learn not to give away anything but the general idea/tone of a book

Well we'd better have a thread with spoiler warnings or something, because I'll be leaping right on here to discuss it with anyone else who is done. Half the fun of a book is squeeing about itengaging in serious discussion about it with other people, after all.

Then if you are going to do that Kami may I suggest you do it in a special password area. I would be really annoyed if I came across it.

I hope that when the bookis released that you will not be discussing the storylines on the forum. SOme of us may A) not have it yet B) not be as fast at reading it C) want to find out for themselves what happens. Braffy dont worry about Kath - she is like a vault - no information gets out even if you want it

I think any discussion of the actual details of the book should be encouraged and left in the open from the start where it's accessible to casual as well as regular visitors to the forum. I personally have no intention of posting about the book all over the place, but one thread with a clear warning in the title should be easy enough to avoid. What's the point of knowing a whole bunch of people who will be reading the same book as you if you can't discuss it? There is the possibility on some forums to implement a "spoiler warning" feature in posts, where any spoilers in posts can be hidden behind a clickable link. Does anyone know if that's possible with Proboards forums?

The subject header should include *Spoiler Alert* and it is up to the individual if they choose to read the thread or not. Not only will an open thread give visitors to the forum an insight into the book but Damien will also have the chance to read our thoughts and views on his first novel. I personally won't be reading any threads about the book or posting messages about it until I've read it in it's entirety.

I think the best way to do it is to have 2 threads - that is the way I've seen it done on other forums which discuss movie s - one thread is a SPOILER ALERT thread with all the chat and details for everyone who has seen it and wants to get into it and the other thread would be the SPOILER FREE one where you aren't allowed to give away the plot etc. That way, as we are all reading the book at different speeds, as we finish it we can go into the SPOILER ALERT thread to get into discussing it with everyone else who has read it or who doesn't mind spoilers. I think it definitely should be in a public area of the forum so everyone interested in the book can read or discuss it

Shims, although I see where you are coming from, I think two threads gets messy, especially if one is passworded and one not. Too easy for people to become confused. Therefore, I would prefer one thread, in the open section, clearly signposted with a Spoiler Alert, so that those of us who have not finished the book cannot be surprised. I've found it is relatively easy to stay out of a thread you would prefer not to read. However, under no circumstances should book discussion be taken anywhere else.

I don't think the actual spoiler thread should be passworded, definitely should be open. I do though think we still need somewhere for people to get excited by the book but for where they won't get it spoiled if they haven't read it all yet - so maybe that could just remain being this thread rather than starting a non-spoiler one? And when the book itself is out, then that could have it's very own spoiler thread. As long as everyone knows from the start not to go near it if they don't want to know the book details I think it should be fine I have a feeling I'm going to take ages to read the book! I want to really enjoy it, as much as I want to tear straight into it and read it all. I can just see us all reading this at totally different paces, will be interesting to see, lol the ones who read fast will probably be rattling about in the spoiler thread for a while waiting for us all to catch up

I have to agree with Trilly, Shims. Two threads could lead to people accidently posting in the wrong thread. It's happened a few times with the Voting threads and the Ssshhh thread.
I'm uncertain what you could discuss about the book if you haven't finished it anyway- that would be able to be posted in a NON spoiler thread?

oh I just meant that people who hadn't read it yet could keep talking about it here, in this thread instead of a non-spoiler thread - it would just be general preview excitement stuff

Hey Guys ;D To help you out a bit, maybe the Mods will have a leetle discussion and let you know what threads will be made regarding this. I don't want anyone to accidentally come across any spoilers about the book either, so I'm sure we can come up with something to keep everyone happy

One thing is for sure that if you get too cheeky then I can become a mod with a vengenece and delete *oops* Braffy, I certainly hope you typed the message above with your tongue firmly placed in your cheek? A mod with a vengenance is not something we need here and I find your comment rather threatening. If any of my posts were deleted without prior discussion with me, I would be highly insulted and would be out or here quick smart. I think it is up to the administrators (read Neski and Murf) to decide whether or not a message should be deleted. Your tone was rather heavy handed and not appreciated.

Myst loving your new siggy.......just a note .......I usually troll the forum using last 20 posts .....so any post about the book would be visible that way ....I dont have a problem with that as I can see soon enough if I want to read or not .......but some others might.......and I also intend to have it read pretty quickly anyways.......
