This is my review which Damien approved me to use. Ticketek asked me to do one coz I purchased my show tickets from them, so I thought why not.
I feel so privileged to have been in the audience to see “The Parting Glass” at Palms at Crown. It’s completely different to what we’ve come to expect from Damien Leith , - a play within a concert, written and performed by Damien Leith and accompanied by the “Black Velvet Band”, consisting of Eric Aranda, Jess Graham, Chris Alford and Kevin Kelly, a group of very talented musicians who provide stunning vocal harmonies as well.
The audience was transported to Ireland, to an evening in an Irish Pub where the band was playing. An old man appeared regularly during the band breaks to tell his tale to anybody prepared to listen, about his son who had just left Ireland and returned to Australia after a brief visit back home. And listen we did - in fact we were spellbound, you could hear a pin drop as Damien Leith in his ‘Michael’ alter ego spun a yarn so funny, witty, moving and entertaining throughout the evening, taking the audience on a journey we wished would never end. I found tissues compulsory, both for the laughing and the crying.
The music… ahh the music! Mostly Irish tunes from Damien’s album “Songs of Ireland” with a few other popular favourites woven into the story as well and they fit in perfectly. Damien’s voice is superb, the story excellent, the music awesome. Damien and the band’s a Capella version of “The Auld Triangle”, wow, words fail me it was so good!! This is a show that doesn’t need 20 dancers in bright costumes and a 20 piece orchestra, just the man and the band will do nicely thank you.
In a word (or three) ….BRILLIANT, AWESOME, SPELLBINDING.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I was so pleased that Damien liked it, gave me a real lift. Think I will be plugging it more, especially Wang which I heard ticket sales aren't going too well. Busy doing stuff tonight as have been out all day, but will get onto it before too long.

Catchie have to totally agree.....fabulous review Glawzy! Glawzy where do we actually go on ticketek to see it and like it? I am feeling a bit nervous about the ticket sales in Wangaratta too! Trying to promote it ....without looking like a total Nutter! I even logged onto 105.7 The River and invited or suggested Matt and Lu come to the show in Wang!
I did notice the Wangaratta Performing Art Centre did post my review too like they said they would.
Just wish people would buy the tickets and see the show...as we all know ....it is fabulous !
If you come up with any more ideas let me know Glawzy !!
Braffy any other ideas .....if Glawz and I are going to look like silly old farts .....may as well do it full slog !

MINGARA RECREATION CLUB. 25th July
OMG Where to start.
When I arrived at the Club at 6pm I collected my ticket from Reception Desk and I asked if it was SOLD OUT and I was told there were 3 tickets left (that constitutes a sell out), but when the show started at 8.30 I couldn't see one single seat.
This is the 3rd time that Damien has played at Mingara and it has always been good.
Tonight was beyond good, great, fabulous. He was killing it. The FULL HOUSE / SOLD OUT audience in the Showroom were in that pub with the old man. They were laughing at his antics, agreeing with him on the talent of the band (or not), singing along. It was such a great atmosphere. I hope Damien could feel the vibe up on the stage.
I forgot that Mingara has the terrible lighting, they have coloured lights at the back of the stage facing forward so that it shines in the audience faces. There is a very bright white light amongst that lot that is quite blinding. It wasn't worrying me too much but it was affecting the lady on the opposite side of the table.
The audience participation segments were very well supported, even the really high notes. Not as good or as high as Damien, but pretty high.
The a Capella songs are just beautiful. The Auld Triangle harmonies work so well. There was one 'harmony' coming from a gentleman in the audience. His timing was a bit out but it sounded like he was having a good time. Not sure of the people around him though. Dawn and Shims would remember the very inebriated man that was in the audience the first time Damien played at Mingara. He was trying to sing Hallelujah that night, very badly, poor timing etc. I actually wondered if it was him doing the loud singing tonight.
At the half time interval i was talking to the lady sitting next to me. She didn't know of Damien, didn't know about Idol, wasn't in the country when he was on............She heard him interviewed on 2 GB and he sang Danny Boy. Straight away when she heard he would be at Mingara she rang the Club to book her tickets, on the strength of that interview and one song.
There was huge applause at the end of the show and lots of more, more, more. Damien came out and swept the crowd along with his brilliant rendition of one of his usual favourites. Quite a few gave him/them a standing ovation. It is certainly the norm. All the band were terrific with their instruments. Jesss looked stunning with glitter lipstick and makeup.
They all did the meet and greet which is nice.
I overheard one young lady talking to Damien. I didn't hear all the conversation but I did hear how grateful she was to Damien for his music getting her through some really tough times. She was at the show because she was granted special leave to attend because of what Damien means to her. I don't think Damien has any real knowledge of how many people he does help through his music. It was so nice for this young lady to acknowledge it and be able to tell him face to face.
This was my last show unfortunately and wow it was a beauty.
There are 3 shows in Victoria next up. I feel sorry for those that don't get to see it. It is so well done that if you are in a position to go and see it and you don't then you are really missing out on a fabulous night out.

It's great that everyone is able to get see the show, some more than once. I haven't read the reviews (properly, have skimmed) as I hope to see it myself one day. Am geographically challenged, which most of the time is a plus for me, but as far as Damo goes..BIG negative!! boohoo. Glad you are all getting/giving the lurve... Damien sure deserves the support.
