Hi all, Damien at Geelong Performing Arts Centre.
This is a great venue, elevated seating all the way, not sure what the capacity is but would think around 450, full house as far as I could see and the audience was a good one, they got into it and so did Damien, Eric and Jess too. It was back to the old days of the patter between Eric and Damien, but maybe not quite as much as days of old, but they were very funny. D looked resplendent in his tight back jeans, black shirt and black tie, tied not too tight, gorgeous looked like new tan dress shoes. They had performed earlier in the day at the Victorian Golf Club and he wore a suit for that, Jess had a gorgeous blue frock on, you may have seen the pic on FB. Jess 'dressed down' for the night though but still looked awesome!
I forgot to take my pen and pad but have worked out a set list, not in order but as best I can remember. I think there could be a song missing but scanned all the past concert threads and none of them stood out as being formed last night. Willy from Claymore was again in the audience and was called up on stage. I was almost wishing he wouldn't when I saw him walk into the auditorium as he 'wastes' some of the precious time of Damien songs, (I'm awful, would rather just listen to D). A couple of surprise songs** which were good, but the others were the regulars on this tour.
See you Again? or Never Forget?
22 Steps
Blowers Daughter
Wicked Game
Unchained Melody
You Got it
Penny Arcade
Galway Girl
Blue Bayou,** beautifully assisted by Jess, gosh the harmonies were sensational, She is one very talented girl.
Rocky Road to Dublin
Interval:
Damien came out on his own as per the format of this show.
Crying
Danny Boy - by request and through a cheer/clap vote against In Dreams
Damien called Willie to the stage and he brought some props, red tartan Scottish scarves which he draped around the mikes. Said the stage needed brightening up and it did that!
They did Song of Ireland/and Scottish Version with massive singalong for the Scottish side.
Eric and Jess came back and there was a surprise version of
Winter Wonderland,** just beautiful, D should record this one!
Brown Eyed girl with Willie playing the bodhran, which he did very well indeed. Then he left the stage and went back to his seat.
Stronger than Superman
Hallelujah
then encore
Toss the Feathers
Nessun Dorma
Standing ovation again. The man I was sitting next to had the RJ book to be signed, he has been a fan for a long time but has only seen Damien in Geelong. I said he was in for a treat and that he may be surprised at how D's voice has matured, the richness and power in those high notes. At the end of the show I asked him what he thought and he said he was blown away.
JUST REMEMBER.....YOU NEED TO HAVE RAIN TO GET THE RAINBOW
